Review of Gods of Egypt (2016) by Dan H — 23 Jul 2016
The Good: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Elodie Young, some of the CGI is pretty, the basic idea has great potential to be a true epic, the film is actually pretty fun for the most part.
The Bad: Chadwick Boseman, Gerard Butler, Brenton Thwaites, Rufus Sewell, lots of cideo-game levels, most of the CGI is bad, confusing and hard to follow action scenes, not everything adds up logic-wise, lots of bad lines, Alex Proyas is not a good director, white-washing of the cast, why do most of the Egyptians speak with a non-Egyptian accent (like British, or Australian), most of the film is predictable and cliched, very little of the forced humor works.
This film is bad....really, really bad. That said, I'd be lying if I didn't say I had a lot of fun with it.
