Review of Gods of Egypt (2016) by Samantha M — 01 Apr 2016
I liked it. Movies rarely have actors of the correct skin tone playing key roles. This felt like just a fun re-imagining of ancient Egypt religion and God's. A way of making the stories seem like they were to be taken literal instead of just more religious tales men made up for whatever reasons. But people started shitting on it right away, so it was doomed. Movies like these aren't supposed to be taken so serious. But we've got way to many critics... Actual critics... And wanna be critics... Acting like movies are anything more than just entertainment.
It's funny, all these people bitching about the skin colors of the main actors never seem to bitch when Jesus is played by a white man in movies. Or how "white", Christian movies are in general. Then all of a sudden this fantasy movie is made, and the main criticism is the color of the actors. And because the movie is hyper criticized before it's release, nobody has a decent thing to say about it at all. Like we didn't just watch clash and wrath of the titans a few years ago without the uproar.
It was a decent movie. Could have been better. Like MOST movies nowdays.
