Review of God's Not Dead 2 (2016) by Zac R — 01 Apr 2016
"God's not dead 2" is a faith-based movie that explores the separation between church and state versus Free Exercise Clause tension in public schools. A teacher (Melissa Joan Hart) comes under fire after bringing Jesus into her answer to a student's question in a historical context.
The ACLU sues her, and the community rallies around her and what they feel to be an unjust lawsuit when they feel she is constitutionally protected. This film is multi-layered and complex and is a very thoughtful look at this issue and the morality of religion without being heavy-handed or trite.
It is a highly compelling movie that handles its subject matter very tautly. It is better than the first film and actually makes the topic relevant. I applaud the director for handling such pervasive subject matter with finesse ------------------------------------------------ B+.
