A beautifully crafted character study of the film director James Whale, responsible for first bringing to the screen Mary Shelley's gothic novel Frankenstein.
Mckellen breathes life in to the lead role and was unlucky to miss the academy award for his performance. Brilliant recreation of 20s and 30s Hollywood for those that are interested on how life really was in the beginning of its history.
Brendan Fraser's performance merits a lot of praise in a very understated, great performance. Lynn Redgrave does a great turn as Whale's housekeeper.
One of those rare intimate little gems that we could do with more of. Highly recommended.
