Ian McKellan was amazing as James Whale: depressed, wickedly humorous, manipulative, and slightly (okay, not slightly) insane. Brendan Fraser? I never liked him before, but I like him now. Lynn Redgrave was wonderful as well, and her love/hate for Whale really showed through.
However, I did not like the constant flashbacks. It was too jolting, and I felt this movie definitely didn't need them.
