Review of Gods and Generals (2003) by Jason F — 06 Mar 2009
It was like an over-cooked steak. Rough and tough, but not too tastey, but meaty and a steak nonetheless.
The production did way to much and didn't give themselves enought time to complete it. This film spans more time than Gettysburg but is a shorter film. It spends a lot of time on the confederates when it was supposed to show both sides equally. In short; it has it's faults.
Despite these it is not a bad film, Stephan Lang does an excellent job playing Thomas Jackson, nearly oscar worthy. Everyone else was at least decent.
The battle scenes are directed very well, if not a tad redundant. But the overall direction is a bit... too textbook.
Average film in the end, understandable why it bombed in the theaters.
