Review of Gods and Generals (2003) by Maxx F — 15 Jan 2012
A good movie, especially the story arc about Stonewall Jackson played with nuanced intensity by the excellent Stephen Lang. The Joshua Chamberlain story seems out of place (Although Jeff Daniels is very good) and the film would have been better served if this was left out. Robert Duvall does an adequate job as Robert E Lee, but seems a bit old for the part, with a lethargic performance.
The Southern scenery is gorgeous and Kali Rocha is tremendous as the devout wife of Stonewall Jackson.
This is an interesting history lesson and worth seeing for the performances of Lang and Rocha.
