This is the terror of the inner journey, where what you find within yourself is the thing you have always questioned but always kept silent within yourself, too, for fear that to see it would be to feel it, and to feel it would mean to disappear into the past.
As the mother says to her son, "Don't touch me; I don't want anyone to touch me ever again....".
