The fascinating lifestory of Ioannis Varvakis, a Greek sea captain of the early 19th century who became a successful caviar trader in the Caspian Sea but he never forgot Greece. He funded the independence war, created schools and built the central market of Athens.
Strong and persevering personality, beautiful cinematography, Sebastian Koch as the star, Catherine Deneuve as the Czarina of Russia and John Cleese!
