Review of God Help the Girl (2014) by Patrick Q — 12 Sep 2014
Light and charming, if you embrace its aesthetic you will be swept away. The music is wonderful (as expected) but Murdoch shows a good sense of framing shots and setting a rich palette. His influences are apparent (French new wave & Hal Hartley) but they are fine influences so all for the better.
Narratively, Murdoch could improve as a filmmaker, but the characters, tunes, and key moments are enough to recommend this beyond B&S fans to indie film fans in general.
