Review of God Grew Tired of Us (2006) by Hannah S — 04 Feb 2008
This fim should be seen, not for it's cinematic merit (although it is a beautiful, albeit hurried, documentary), but to bring awareness both to the suffering outside of the U.S. and the fate of immigrants once they arrive.
If people come away from this film more frustratingly aware of the complexities of aid, refugues, propaganda, capitalism, America, and suffering in general, then I think it's earned the many awards it has received.
Please, though, don't just acceot the surface message of even award-winning documentaries, or be saisfied with a 5 minute history of Sudan.
