Review of God Bless America (2012) by Sam S — 06 Aug 2012
This movie advocates exactly all of the things that Frank goes on his killing to spree to protest. It tries to appear edgy while striving not to offend anybody except those nasty white American republicans.
It glorifies the violence committed by people who kill people for glorifying violence. In one line Roxxy idolizes Alice Cooper style anarchism, and in the next she laments the death of family values. Throughout the movie's length the two kill only one person who is not a white republican, that person being a black TV star.
The possibility of a black or arab man being immoral is left unexplored. Not even white liberals are ever shown in a negative light. Another embarrassing addition to the movie is the cartoonishly stereotypical character Roxxy.
I guess the filmmakers expected the possibility of a girl who actually CURSES(gasp) and has violent urges to blow my narrow conformist mind, as she delivers one cringe-worthy, contradictory, obnoxious line after the other.
In one of the worst scenes in the movie she explains how she had to go on her killing spree because her parents "didn't understand her", because she was "more intelligent than them".
In the final scene the two abandon all of their carefully constructed morals as they mow down dutiful security guards trying to defend innocent audience members from their hypocritical wrath. According to this film America is the only place in the world where cruelty exists, France is a utopia where everyone lives in perfect happiness, and the rest of the world is assumed to live a simple life of blissful peace, respecting one another and acting rationally in all situations.
