Review of God Bless America (2012) by Coalton R — 24 Aug 2012
God Bless America looks absolutely fantastic on paper with it's ingenious (although not completely original) premise but it feels only decently executed. Luckily, the film is so enjoyable and jam-packed with appeal for pathetic miserable misanthropes that it's simply a delicious treat.
The film is entertaining enough it in its relatable pop-culture satire and angry hateful rantings but it doesn't really take itself any further than that. The writing (particularly the characterization) feels weak and there's just no real spirit behind any of it. As a result, the film feels empty and vapid, despite its intriguing ideas.
God Bless America's brilliant premise and engrossing satire is delectable but there's just nothing else to back it up and provide the viewer with a wholly invigorating experience. In other words, the film isn't as nearly as good as you expect it to be or as it could have been.
