Review of God Bless America (2012) by Andrew F — 09 Sep 2012
Not quite insightful enough to be a good satire, not quite funny enough to be a good dark comedy, and too talky to be exciting. It's an interesting premise with a overall message you can probably get behind (that America's become too meanspirited and obnoxious), but for a movie that involves a middle-aged man and a teenager girl killing a bunch of reality stars in cold blood, it's amazing how slow it can be. Also, I gotta say, it's kind of hard to get behind a protagonist who goes on a killing spree with so little remorse, even if his targets "deserve it". I mean, even Walter White is more discriminatory than this.
Interesting premise, poor execution, and came THIS close to actually legitimately offending me. For anyone that knows me, that should say a lot.
