While "The Riot Club" deals with the fraternity ala British way and "Neighbors" in a comedic way, Andrew Neel's latest movie "Goat" suggests another taste to the horrors of hazing in its depiction between two brothers (Jonas & Schnetzer), who tests the bond of their brotherhood as siblings and members of a fraternity.
From the opening credits of the movie, you are expected to have an extraordinary ride from start to finish. Our main protagonist has enough background in order to build the arc of his character, and since this is based on a memoir from Brad Land, we have a sense of concern and relatability, which is attached to him.
The intense scenes during the Hell Week serve as the disturbing looks to the effects of hazing. It is well-accompanied with memorable yet surprising performances from Schnetzer, Jonas and the entire cast, especially a cameo appearance by James Franco.
Along with an unsatisfying ending, there are also spaces for improvements in the execution by Neel. VERDICT: Goat marks the highlight for the careers of Schnetzer and his supporting cast, in a cruel representation to the horrors of hazing and sibling rivalry.
