Review of Gnomeo & Juliet (2011) by Jacob B — 21 Apr 2018
I remember laughing my ass off the first time I saw this movie. Because a sequel is coming out...for some reason, I figured it was time to go back. Age has not been kind to me. I mean, the animation looks decent.
The characters move in a stop-motion-y way while the humans move in an unnaturally smooth way that gives them an uncanny valley vibe but the textures help give it a sense of realism whilst still giving the gnome cartoony facial expressions to remind us this movie's CGI.
The Elton John songs are good. Some of the humour is fine and the voice acting is good. But it's not as good as I remember it, some of the humour is too childish and the premise is Toy Story in a garden.
The movie's cute and harmless but forgettable. Damn, growing up sucks.
