Review of Glorious 39 (2009) by Andrew W — 14 Jan 2010
I saw this at a preview screening with Stephen Poliakoff doing a Q&A afterwards. I have to say I really enjoyed the film but found the very end a bit flat. Hearing about the historical background to the film and how it was conceivably accurate really increased my respect for it though.
I hope something like that ends up on the DVD release. Apart from that Romola Garai is very engaging as the protagonist, you really care about what's happening to her and that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The only quibble I have with this is the anticlimactic ending but the other 2 hours 8 minutes and 30 seconds are excellent.
