Review of Global Haywire (2006) by Ann S — 07 Jul 2008
Innovative, intelligent and witty, this documentary offers a bracing critique of the dominant narratives of a civilizational conflict and the war on terror and sets the presents East-West impasse in its historical context.
Through allusion and allegory the cast comprising of cartoons and caricatures is joined by the real life voices of students and intellectuals to address issues in all their complexity. While it effectively employs humour to drive the narrative, the film doesn't reach for easy answers or lulls the audience with false resolution.
Instead it leaves the viewer with a head full of ideas to ponder on.
