Review of Glitter (2001) by James S — 08 Jul 2008
There's two ways of looking at this film. Option one, a 'serious' cinematic offering that might stand the test of time. Option two, a 'star vehicle' to promote the tallents of Mariah and to apeal directly to the fans.
If you go for option one then you'll be pretty badly disappointed. Cinematic genius it certainly isnt. Go for option two and it becomes a light hearted and somewhat enjoyable film which promotes the undoubted tallents of the star.
Unfortunately acting isnt one of them, but the singing more than makes up for it. Semi autobiographical star films are rarely the pinacle of cinematography (with perhaps the notable exception of 8 mile) but I'd highly recommend this one, if only for a nice girle night in.
