Review of Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) by Ross B — 10 Sep 2012
James Foley adapts David Mamet's award winning play and brings it to stunning life in this spectacular film. The film centers around a small property agency which is managed by John Williamson (Kevin Spacey).
The branch only has four employees: Ricky Roma (Al Pacino), Shelley Levene (Jack Lemmon), Dave Moss (Ed Harris), and George Aaronow (Alan Arkin). The firm's sales have been lagging and so a sales motivator (Alec Baldwin) is hired by corporate to motivate the team.
He informs them that the person with the lowest sales at the end of the month will be fired. What transpires is the next around twelve hours in these salesmen's lives as they try to actually make some sales.
The cast is superb and really a dream. They all play off of each other brilliantly and it is a joy to see them work together. The real scene stealer though is Baldwin, who only is in the film for one scene yet makes a huge impression with his monologue.
All in all, a classic film that assembles of the greatest groups of talents a film has seen.
