Review of Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) by Adam J — 06 Apr 2014
Now this was something special, a movie about the plight of the working man with excellent sizzling dialogue, masterful wit and powerhouse acting by everyone involved. What I liked the most about this movie, besides everything mentioned, is that if a character said they were going to go away, they did, that might not sound like much but the movie was realistic and just because a big named actor left the area in which this movie took place it doesn't mean we have to see them in the new area, a) because it isn't important, b) it doesn't play up to their egos and that's why only some characters are on screen total for a few minutes because they served their purpose and they had to leave or when a character says they're not going to show up for something, well, that's the last we hear from them in awhile.
The movie tries to go for a realistic tone throughout the entire thing and I'd say the filmmakers accomplish this tremendously because even though throughout the film the levels of tension and anger increase exponentially there is still dark comedy thrown in every now and then, just like in real life, no matter how dark and sad a situation is, a funny thing will happen in life whether you're happy or not, that's just how things go.
Besides all of that it's just fun to see big name actors just tear into each other for 2 hours; totally not the point of the movie but it's another point in it's favor.
