Review of Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) by Mark W — 28 Jan 2010
First of all, have a look at the cast! (Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, Ed Harris, Alec Baldwin, Alan Arkin). Brilliant actors and in this film they are at the top of their game.
This is the type of film that allows you to appreciate good acting.
It is based on a stage play of the same name and written by David Mamet and is basically set in the greed infused world of Real Estate Salesmen. There really are no depths as to which these people will not stoop. Not only do they vie to take money from unsuspecting, ordinary people, they vie to outdo each other.
The whole film is set, just like the play, in the office in which these vile characters inhibit and the cruel and manipulative way in which they operate. As always, Pacino is good but the film must go to Jack Lemmon as the desperate, bumbling fool who has past his best in this cut-throat business. A 10min cameo from Baldwin though, almost steals the show about what you need to sell Real Estate. "Brass Balls".
If you appreciate, good actors working with good dialogue then this is one of the best. Top Quality!!! *****. Mark.
