Review of Glen or Glenda (1953) by Joel A — 21 Oct 2010
Ed Wood films are that bad they are enjoyable, but viewers be aware they are bad!! This film is so ludicrous it works, the director Ed Wood in fact was a cross dresser and this film I assume is his swan song to all the other's out there...or so I gather.
He himself plays the lead under a different name, like he had to keep his name secret anyway, he was famous for all the wrong reasons. The film had a tiny budget, and it's so funny to see where he cut corners. For example showing the same footage of cars driving down the highway 6 or 7 times, have dialouge scene's as voiceover's to a still image, cause he clearly ran out of funds.
My favourite scene in particular is when he is walking down the street as a woman and clearly he hasn't got permission to film there and does a runner cause the police are hot on his tail, classic 'bad' filmmaking.
This film overall is bad, but enjoyable you can see why his films have reached such cult status, they are worth a watch....well at least once anyway.
