Review of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022) by Mak234 — 24 Dec 2022
The first movie wasn’t perfect but it was much better. Just like Miles Bron (Edward Norton’s character ) is using money to mask his deficiencies, Rian Johnson did the same with this sequel. The movie is relying too much on special effects and glamorous sets allowing for the story to suffer.
The first third is interesting and promising. There is a cleaver solve ,early in the film, made by detective Benoit Blanc. However, shortly after that scene, everything turns into never-ending flashbacks.
Second half is less engaging and repetitive allowing us to know exactly who did it one hour before the end. From that moment on it felt like someone is trying to tell you something you already know. I think that the third sequel they are preparing should be made on a much lesser budget that would challenge writing and story structure instead of focusing on explosions.
