Review of Glass House: The Good Mother (2006) by Kevin R — 12 Jul 2008
Hmmm it is always very sad for me to see actors who have been in some of my favourite TV shows having to stoop to TV Movie helldom. Joel Gretsch who did a fantastic job as the lead in TVs The 4400 for four seasons, could have surely found a better gig than this TV Movie where he merley plays a very passive secondary character.
The Good Mother is a TV movie that apparently fared so badly in Tv ratings, that TV execs decided to add the "The Glass House" fore title in order to boost interest in it. Apparently The Glass Hose was a movie back in the 80s that was of interest.
TV Movies by Rule, Must centre on a Disease, True Life tragedy, Murder or Domestic abuse - and The good Mother centres on the latter.
A couple adopt two kids following the death of their young child a year earlier. Little by little we learn that their new parents are defintely not the Brady parents. It turns out the mum has some sort of disorder that leads her to harm the children, and the dad, who knows this, loves his wife so much that he allows it to happen. One more note, teenage adopted girl suddenly learns the truth - the vchild that dies a year later was another adopted child and he was murdered by the mum. Turns out he was Adopted Kid No. 6 to have died in mysterious circumstances.
And so, the Good Mother fails to create realism or credibility even within the world it has itself created. surely, no Adoption agency would allow a couple to continue to adopt children after having Five previous adopted kids die in mysterious circumstances whilst in their care, and within a few years.
The GlassHouse - The Good Mother - no wonder its selling at £1.98 on Amazon!
