Review of Glass (2019) by Chris L — 18 Jan 2019
I got to see this at an early screening Tuesday (1/15) and it was a packed house. At the end, I think it was a universal, "HUH?" as to how it ended. If it had ended 15 minutes earlier ..
. it could have been SO much better! Even something ambiguous would have been much more satisfying. A lot of loose ends were coming together, plot points that you did not see were making some nice connections .
.. then it just goes on and on and ON! The star is McAvoy and he is great, flipping without missing a beat between personalities. He is the backbone of the movie and interacts throughout while the first third is all about Bruce Willis' character (who disappears for an extended time).
There is a lot of anticipation that begins to build, especially with Samuel L. Jackson who shows up about halfway in but is in a state where he is literally doing nothing. Even with that ... things start to finally pick up when he gets moving and scheming.
I felt as though this last tacked on portion stole from some of the older Halloween movies ... the really bad ones where they started spiraling out of control. If I said more, it would spoil too much but I'm sure there are many who will make this connection.
Check the runtime and when you are about 15 minutes from the end, just leave. You will be able to just make up your own satisfying end ... and probably give it four stars from what you have seen to that point.
Stay and you'll feel the disappointment come pouring over you as you watch everything get ridiculous.
