Review of Glass (2019) by Everton C — 18 Jan 2019
The long awaited sequel to unbreakable is here and the short awaited sequel to split have formed together for a grand giant finale. In the end it falls far short. We were promised a grounded superhero movie we had never seen before.
In the end we got a movie nothing like a superhero film and like every crazy house movie we have gotten before. The films first 20 mins should have been the third movie which gave us a grounded superhero film like unbreakable.
The the last hour and a half could have been the fourth film. But it all being in one film hurt the overall story. To much talking and not enough showing and not enough character arcs and moments for its leads.
They were just obstacles and not characters which made the grand finale feel small and unearned compared to the finale of unbreakable. Though the final twist can lead to spin offs and many other great stories in the future that can start a new superhero universe.
Maybe then the magic of unbreakable can return. But for now we have the trilogy ender in glass which despite some shines of greatness is a lifeless, overstuffed let down.
