Review of Glass (2019) by Michael R — 19 Jan 2019

Since this film was announced, I have been absolutely pumped. This was definitely my most anticipated film of 2019, especially after seeing Split three years ago, and the realization that it is directly connected to Unbreakable â" hands down my favorite M. Night Shyamalan film. That twist ending blew my mind then, and since then, Iâ(TM)ve been 110% ready for Glass. It did not disappoint! 19 years in the making, and I had a blast with this film. It kept that quiet, mysterious atmosphere from Unbreakable, which I really appreciated. Shyamalan directs a beautiful film here; itâ(TM)s gorgeous with plenty of color and impressive tracking shots. The only real issue I had was the ending. It felt like it came out of left field, very anticlimactic and was chosen over many other endings that could have been so much better, but that is just one small issue. It definitely didnâ(TM)t ruin the film overall for me.

As with Split, James McAvoy really is the reason to see this film. His performances when bringing out all of the 24 different personalities is incredible, and allowing these performances to build off of Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sarah Paulson makes them that much better this time around. Bruce Willis isnâ(TM)t given a ton to do here, and this character never had much personality, but itâ(TM)s still great to see David Dunn back again. Samuel L. Jackson is absolutely mesmerizing in this role again; his Mr. Glass is more sinister, he has a plan, he gets so much done in so many efficient ways. I know Shyamalanâ(TM)s style is not for everyone, but if you havenâ(TM)t seen Unbreakable or Split, please check them out, and then Glass.
