Review of Glass (2019) by Gabriel M — 22 Jan 2019
Glass isnâ(TM)t perfect. But it tries something new. M.Night does what he did with Unbreakable again; telling the superhero story in a new and exciting way.
McAvoy is again phenomenol as The Horde. The seemless way he switches between personalities is acting at his best. McAvoy has never done a performance like this, and it may be the best of his career. The way in which he can change personalities and convey which of the 24 he is just by his body posture is beyond crazy.
Bruce Willis makes a triumphent comeback to the character of David Dunn, really giving his all. It is clear that he has an attachment to the charcater, as Willisâ(TM) recent performances have been subpar at best. It would have been nice to have a few more character moments beween David and Elijah, but I understand the plot needed them seperate.
Samuel L. Jacksonâ(TM)s Mr Glass had a slow start to say the least, but once he got going, by god he blew me away. How such power and menance can be conveyed from a man in a wheelchair is quite astonishing, and how Glassâ(TM) plan comes together is fun, exciting and some of the best use of Chekovâ(TM)s Gun in any Shyamalan film.
Like some other critics on here, I agree that the final part of the film felt a bit rushed, leaving a relatively unsatisfying conclusion. However, the first 90% of the movie more than makes up for it, and leaves Glass feeling like a fitting end to the Eastrail 177 trilogy.
When seeing Glass, do not expect a sequel to Unbreakable. Do not watch this movie as you did Split. This movie is a superhero film; it has cheese, suspense and action. Watch it as such, and you will appreciate the experience a lot more.
