Review of Glass (2019) by Derek L — 22 Jan 2019
I loved Unbreakable, and thought Split was pretty entertaining, though slightly overrated. Like a lot of other fans, I was excited about the Unbreakable callback at the end of Split, and looked forward to this third installment of the realistic superhero movies from M. Night Shyamalan.
Though it was fun to see these characters again, and to see how they have changed over time, it just felt ... off. It felt like they were trying to mush everything together instead of just creating a new story that includes both.
Although the movie itself was entertaining at times, and we get to see both Mr. Glass and David Dunn (The Overseer) at full strength (like we barely did in Unbreakable), it was muted by a bunch of other unnecessary scenes and characters.
I gave this one 3/5 stars, because it felt like an average movie - but not as good as I had hoped for and not as good as it could have been if they took the time to create a compelling new story.
