Gladiator is a well done gladiator movie starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoneix. The movie brings the ruthlessness and brutality of ancient Rome to life.
Crowe's performance as an iconicly brave and tragic hero is well done. Phoenix's performance as a complex and disturbing evil emperor is also well done. There really were evil emperors like him in those days.
It's an epic saga with plenty of fighting action and a bit of tragic romance. Not a happy ending, but the heroism is larger than life.
