Review of Girls Trip (2017) by Abin A — 05 Feb 2018
Girls Trip is the result if How Stella Gets Her Groove Back has an orgy with The Hangover and Bridesmaid and it was fun while it lasts. The four main leads are likeable enough - with Jada Pinkett Smith playing against type and Tiffany Haddish repeating a Melissa McCarthy style breakout (in Bridesmaid) being the two standouts.
While the story plays out mostly logically in its own way, you can see the plot twists and turns a mile away, and some of the laugh out loud moments feels like cutaway inserts that has little narrative importance.
A decent enough comedy that targets a niche market extremely well but also manages to let others outside that niche a look-in (and takes the mickey out of them via Kate Walsh's token white character).
