Review of Girlfriend Experience (2008) by Saman K — 22 Jun 2009
Soderbergh has never been a mainstream cat at heart, but does want to keep the interest of his audiences. Some how The Girlfriend Experience (though the subject matter isn't as unexpected), does actually seem to alienate the audience quite a bit.
However, as you progress about 1/3 it is completely obvious that this is the intention. A cold and and impersonal externalization of a girl who can't be herself if she wants to be good at her work. The day & life tale didn't really get old for me to be honest.
The Girlfriend Experience may not be a Joyless experience in real life, but the film was truly an insightful one with relevancy.
