Review of Girlfight (2000) by Jenny B — 30 Sep 2007
I wasn't expecting to like this as much as did. It's not as easy-cheesy girl power as the title might suggest- the lead isn't that common fake sort-of tomboy, and she's not something inhuman unaware of her femininity either.
The realism of her as a character is, I think, what pulls the film along through the rather more general plot - she has to prove herself, there are obstacles, there is a love interest. It's perhaps a little predictable ultimately, as films with this storyline tend to be, but is done well enough that you can overlook that and just enjoy.
