Review of Girlfight (2000) by Alita M — 27 Apr 2009
There was just something about it that was very awkward- mostly the acting. The plot moved very jaggedly, leaving me feeling like we were getting the rushed version at times and then slowly drawing out other scenes.
I didn't find the reason for the opening scene fight convincing enough to start for her "bad attitude." Her hatrid towards the girl at school seemed shallow and positively lame to be motivating enough to be a fighter.
Had it opened with scenes of her abusive father though....maybe it's too predictable, but you didn't really get the sense of her passion to kick ass until towards the very end and couldn't figure out why she was so determined to piss her father off until, well, she did.
