Review of Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003) by Jessica C — 02 May 2008
Slow-moving romantic story. I just read the book. Of course it's better, because it gives you her perspective and is more about adolescence and coming of age. In the book, she marries butcher boy and receives the earrings only after Vermeer's death.
There isn't really any truth to this story, but it does inspire one's imagination when seeing a painting as beautiful as this. I enjoyed seeing how the colors were mixed and the stillness of the subjects, but I most missed hearing Griet's inner thoughts as given by the book.
