Review of Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003) by Michele B — 08 Jun 2008
I love period pieces. I love art. A period piece about an artist should ring my bell, right? Especially since Vermeer is one of my favorite painters of all time. What he does with light is amazing.
He's left relatively few paintings behind, and very little is known of his life. With that said, this "speculation" of his life and his charater told through the eyes of Scarlett Johannson, is just... boring.
The whole movie was Scarlett's maid character appearing startled and curtseying with a bowed head whenever Vermeer or whoever would talk to her.
I love Colin Firth and the cinematography, but that's about all I can recommend. I could barely keep my interest through the whole hour and a half .
