Review of Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003) by Ruby J — 13 May 2010
I don't think this is the true story behind the painting, but it's a damn good one either way!
The characters are surprisingly clean (for the times) in their appearance however, the crudeness of the cooking, cleaning and way of living helps take you back to an era when poor white girls left home to be maids for affluent families.
But a lot of those families were struggling just as bad to keep up appearances in front of aristocrats, like the obscene bully played by the phenomenal Tom Wilkinson.
Oh yeah, I think this is the movie I developed my girl-crush on Scar-Jo. :P.
