Review of Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003) by David M — 09 Nov 2011
The movie does a good job at making the world a believable one. You really get a sense of the time and the place and just like Vermeer's paintings themselves, the attention to detail is breathtaking. Johansson is enchanting as the maid with very little to say, she manages to capture the minds of other characters and the audience without so raising her voice above a whisper.
It does have to be said that this movie is not for the thrill seekers out there. In the end not a whole lot happens and what does happen moves at a very slow pace. I would recommend a slow drink and a comfy couch for this one.
