Review of Girl, Interrupted (1999) by Moya W — 10 Aug 2013
Girl, Interrupted is a story about self discovery. It's about finding out who you really are.
The acting was great from both Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie but it felt like the director, or whoever wrote the script, weren't that informed on the technicalities and the fashion sense of the 60's. Because it didn't really feel like the 60's when watching it and the movie contained a few things that just happened to be a bit too modern for that decade.
Sometimes I felt that I had a hard time following what was going on and putting the puzzle pieces back together. I felt that the reasons for the patients being at the psychic ward were understated, you never really understood why they were there to begin with. And even if you new why, you could never really see the symptoms as clearly as you would have wanted.
Other than that it was an okay movie, it was only the lack of credibility and realism that made it rather confusing. It was still easy to sit through it though, the acting from the all star cast was astonishing and the change that they'd made to Angelina Jolie's beauty was amazing. She played the characer that was probably easiest to believe in, but still hardest to understand.
