Review of Girl, Interrupted (1999) by Michaelina D — 20 Mar 2009
A love of the original book and of Jared Leto forced me to watch this. And I'm not altogether regretful that I did so. Although mildly entertaining, it's nowhere near as evocative as the book; you're not inside Susanna's head in the movie in the same way as you are in the book.
There were a few truly touching scenes, Susanna telling Lisa she's already dead being easily the most powerful moment in the movie, rivaling the intensity of the book for once, but for the most part the movie seemed content to skate by rather than really push any buttons.
Ryder's acting was passable, but Jolie and the supporting cast were superb. Great book, great acting, slightly above mediocre movie.
