Review of Girl, Interrupted (1999) by Gustav J — 22 Apr 2013
Angelina Jolie delivers the greatest performance of her career. Winona Ryder also delivers a knockout perfromance in this incredibly provocative and psychological drama which will leave an impact on you after watching.
The overall reception of this film was average and some critics liked it and others didn't, however, just the sheer acting brilliance is enough for this film to be appreciated. Even though the script is average, and the plot is very basic, it is overcome by the amazing performances from Jolie, Ryder and Goldberg.
The central plot revolves around the institutional world, and for Suzanna, this world is very new and shocking, mostly contributed by Lisa's over the top mental behaiour and stability. Some may call it a coming of age story, but I call it a self identification story.
What we want to be and what we see in the mirror are completely different things, and this film studies that very concept on so many levels... Highly recommended.
