Review of Girl 6 (1996) by Flike S — 18 Nov 2008
Many artists of many different crafts have used their love and or infatuation for women, as motivation for their creations from past, present, and most likely forever. Here with "Girl 6", I believe that is what Lee is doing, but on two counts.
One for women, and one for another craft, acting. He simply brings us into the world of a young actress struggling in New York, and exploits the treatment that an up and coming woman may have to take, and the situations she may have to engage in to get by.
Surely Lee's picture is stylistic, and maybe even schizophrenic, but it works. My only real problem was with the little girl and the elevator. It simply just wasted time and really seemed to have no connection to girl 6, especially the horribly blocked closure with her, the little girl, and her mother towards the end.
Overall I sense a bit of mental, or maybe even real masturbation from this "Joint", but Lee keeps it tasteful and unique.
