Review of Gingerdead Man vs. Evil Bong (2013) by Wayne K — 03 Jul 2017
Surprisingly overlooked at the 86th Academy Awards, Gingerdead Man Vs. Evil Bong unites 2 exceedingly silly movie franchises, doesn't have the titles characters fight each other, and pads its runtime with excruciatingly unnecessary discourse about weed, cookies and events from the past.
There's at least 2 instances where footage from pervious movies is played inside a cloud of smoke. This film could be half an hour long, and it would probably still be stupid and unwatchable. The Gingerdead Man is barely in it, and his design is even worse than in previous instalments.
The Evil Bong also doesn't participate very much. Admittedly it does have the odd funny element. I especially like how when somebody lights up and tokes on a bong the room around them fills with smoke for no discernible reason, and the cheapness of the productions arouses the occasional chuckle, but it's glaringly obvious that this is not a Gingerdead Man movie.
He has little to nothing to do, is no more interesting than he was in the past, and I still don't understand how he keeps coming back after being destroyed. Spoiler alert, this film doesn't even bother to kill him, so I guess we can expect to see more of his misadventures in the future.
Forgive me if I don't jump up and down for joy.
