Review of Ginger Snaps (2000) by Matt C — 15 Apr 2010
Even though I have seen this many times, I feel like reviewing it so that maybe one of you will take this as a sign to check it out. The story is a revamped werewolf tale about two sisters Ginger and Brigitte (the amazing Katherine Isabelle and Emily Perkins, respectively) that get attacked by a werewolf. The film follows the sisters as Brigitte begins to transform into a werewolf and her sister does everything she can to prevent it from happening.
The storyline itself is a fresh, new take on the werewolf tale and that's what makes this work so well. The two leads are outstanding, even in their future roles in films such as She's the Man, Freddy vs Jason, and even landing guest spots on shows such as Supernatural and Smallville show just how great Katherine and Emily are. The effects are better than I've seen even in today's movies because it's not CGI (which bugs me in movies) so it makes it feel even more real. The movie goes on to spawn two sequels Ginger Snaps II: Unleashed and Ginger Snaps Back (a prequel). All three are definitely worth checking out.
