Review of Gimme Shelter (2013) by Morgan R — 30 Nov 2010
I've been on an old Stones movie kick lately. I'm not a huge fan of their music but I am fascinated by how much they captured the attention of the public. They were huge and still are some 40 years later.
This documentary was interesting to see mostly for the period they were in. The open festival concept seemed like such a good idea at the time. However, the execution of the concert plainly left a lot to be desired.
One can appreciate the security measures one sees at concerts these days. All in all, it's a great glimpse of the late 60s, early 70s lifestyle. The chaos that resulted from too many people, too much booze and drugs, too little organization, and a lot of hype is incredible to witness.
That a lot of it was captured on film makes it timeless.
