Review of Gilda (1946) by Patrick B — 29 May 2010
"Gilda" has its moments. Rita Hayworth is a sexy femme, and some of the scenes between Glenn Ford and herself were wonderfully intense. But overall, "Gilda" seemed very unfocused. Some parts move along rather slowly, but at the same time, the movie rushes along; constantly keeping you at a distance from really getting to know the characters.
It'd be nice if this went through a rewrite. It's not a boring film noir by any means, but it failed to suck me into its dark underbelly.
