Review of Gilda (1946) by Marc-Daniel O — 09 Aug 2014
Unfortunately a good acting does not necessarily support an excellent movie. The staging continuously switch between a background obscure intrigue and the supposedly love-hate relationship between the 2 main protagonists.
This wavering can become annoying after less than half of the movie time span. The regularly exposed explicit sexual tension between Golda and Johnny may be seen as innovative at that time, but one cannot reasonably lay out a complete scenario on that unique side of the story.
We do not even escape from the typical pesky happy ending scenario. Remains only Rita Hayworth as the eternal symbol of seduction,.
