Review of Gigli (2003) by Brian S — 23 May 2011
Surprisingly not awful. certainly not good, but I've seen worse. the supporting cast is pretty decent, and there is a line or two that warrants a chuckle, or at least a wry smile. that being said, the story is incredibly slow and choppy.
it calls itself a romantic comedy, sets itself up to be an action drama, and plays out like neither. some of the scenes drag on so long you can't help but shout, "get on with it!" the writing is just embarrassing.
I don't ever think I've seen a movie with more painfully awkward sexual dialogue and corresponding scenarios. plus, I don't know what was supposed to be funny. lesbians interested in men? the quirks of the mentally handicapped? psychotic violence? the perfectly flat wall of talent and sub-par development known as main characters? I certainly have no desire to see this again, but it wasn't a total waste of time.
it's not one of the worst movies ever made--it's too bland and forgettable to get that much credit.
