Review of Gigi (1958) by Jerrod G — 14 May 2009
This little musical isn't necessarily bad, but it's not too appealing either. Being a fan of both Lerner & Lowe as well as Minnelli, I was somewhat disappointed. Few songs stuck in my head, and the whole story just seemed either adolescent or .
.. well ... creepy. I mean the uncle Honoré really just came off as a womanizer (and that song "Thank God for Little Girls" just seemed wrong somehow). Maybe it's really how the French acted in 1900, but it wasn't that great for me.
3/5 stars.
